Chakras and Your Creative Process
Feb 03, 2026
As a child, I didn’t plan on becoming a chakra expert. First off, I didn’t know what chakras were, even though I could see swirling balls of colored lights in and around family members. Second, I had a list of other choices, though my ideas changed as I progressed through childhood.
I was going to be Miss America (sorry, I wasn’t a feminist at age six). Then I tried on ship captain (because Mark Twain loved the river), princess (again, I hadn’t yet met with feminism), doctor (that wouldn’t have been a bad choice!), lawyer (glad I didn’t go there), and finally, author.
I have accomplished the latter.
It turns out that being a writer or any type of creative individual blends really well with the chakras. Here is my set-up.
I work with a 12-chakra system, mainly because that is the number of glowing spheres I could see when I was a child. Science is now proving that we are mainly made of subtle or quantum energy, and this energy organizes as fields of light and sound. These fields are controllable with consciousness, which is key to composing a good life. The more issues we clear and the more skilled we become at focusing our desires, the more apt we are at manifesting and healing.
Of course, life is life. I’ve learned not to assume that this formula means that life automatically becomes easy. But anyway.
Chakras are only one of several subtle bodies, but they are important for creation. They serve as steering wheels for analyzing and directing physical and subtle energies. Each chakra manages a specific bandwidth of frequences and is therefore charged with operating a certain set of physical, psychological, and spiritual functions.
They are also more than that. This is where we tip over the edge into creativity.
At different times in our life, our soul relays through one or more chakras more often than others. That is because our soul’s purpose during that period requires the expertise of that chakra. For instance, when an opera singer is actively performing, at the minimum they organize through their fifth chakra. This is the energy center anchored in the throat and is charged with communication, including singing.
Of course, our might require the powers of other chakras, such as an entrée through their second chakra, especially when on stage. This is the creative chakra. What is music without feeling and musicality? Once our operate singer retires, they might become a painter. It’s not like the fifth or second chakras go dormant, however, it’s that now the sixth chakra, which is visual, turns on-line to a greater degree than before. Knowing your most natural strong chakras, and being able to switch between, is equal to self-empowerment.
I can accomplish my goals easiest through my first chakra. I’ve always been a first chakra person. (Yeah, there is that “H” part of ADHD in there.) Though I have other important chakras and can call on different ones depending on my orientation, employing my first chakra suits me to a “t”.
As a first chakra aficionado, I don’t meditate on how to meet a goal. I just do. The first is the most physical of all chakras and individuals with it as gift are motivated by action, materialism, and making things happen.
For instance, when I must write a book chapter (I write non-fiction books) I sit down. I don’t preplan, although the “H” part of my ADHD requires that I take hourly breaks as I can’t go dormant for long. (It’s a good thing I have three animals, because it means that they each get walked quite often. Writing is also the only time I get my house cleaning down; there is nothing like decluttering to clear the mind.) When I get stuck, I stick-to-it through my first chakra. I might head to the grocery store with my laptop and sit in the deli and punch keys for a while, then reward myself with a snack.
If I’m really stuck, I’ve learned to play the keyboard of the chakra system. I’ll deliberately switch chakras and come from a different energetic position. This act invites me out of the doldrums and stimulates new learning paths.
Are you wondering about the styles of the twelve chakras? Here is a cheat sheet. See where you might fall.
Chakra Style
First: Just act
Second: Feel into it
Third: Get thee a good calendar
Fourth: Have a friend help
Fifth: Sing, chat, affirm
Sixth: See it done and dress the part while writing
Seventh: Let the Spirit help
Eighth: Connect with otherworldly guides
Ninth: Harmonize with your future readers
Tenth: Write in Nature
You’ll learn how to apply your strongest chakra in my upcoming writing program for non-fiction books through The Shift Network, and all the chakras to move your project down the road.
